“Meanwhile, Outside the Laboratory”
During their fantastic journey, a young boy and his pink squirrel sidekick take a break by a babbling brook. This picture was a fluke with its unusual (for me) subject matter and patience in detail. That was due to the piece being my first submission to the Maine Open Juried Art Show in several years. It's a nervous feeling after all that detail is put on the page, and then lashing over the negative space with black sketch pencil— it's almost like a pastel at that point: very messy with a high risk of smudging. Despite all that hard work, the picture was juried out of the show, so I was denied my grand return to the spotlight for another year. I did, however, sell the piece.
