I'm still fascinated by the interaction of chicks and serpents. This is sort of an opposing sequel to Slither that didn't turn out as well. Note that the back wing is inverted. Yes, that is a not-so-happy accident.
A four-winged unicorn-dragon flutters over a colorful fantasy garden. This is the smallest drawing on Vigistry.com, the original measures 5.5 x 4.5 inches. Micro-drawing was a actually a good way to try new things and build experience with color pencils. Several of these dragon drawings are quite small.
Not really a mech dragon, but one with an exoskeleton of metal girders, which can be just as imposing. As this guy breaks through that magical defense system, it causes a dimensional disturbance seen in the negative effect around its claws. This was my first lesson in negative colors. A better example of this effect can be seen in Toxic Dream.
The graveyard is haunted by the ghost of a small dragon no more conspicuous than a wisp of smoke. This picture was a challenge because the dragon was drawn in white pencil on white paper, then the background was drawn over it, resulting in the transparency effect.
Sort of a multi-tangent piece that combines a fantasy setting with a portal into another dimension. Likewise, two art styles are combined. My personal exercise was to achieve realism with color pencils, just as I used to do with enamel paint. This drawing is quite small, too, so the pencils were sharpened often. A better example of this technique can be seen in Meet Your Maker.
A series of dragons isn't complete without one stripped of flesh. This guy is pretty old, but he lives on in Vigistry.com digital designs.
A futuristic-style dragon with a shiny armored body and mischievous grin. I've received comments about how his wings could not support his weight in flight. My answer to them: who said this guy even flies to begin with? And no, this dragon was not inspired by Aliens; I've never really paid much attention to their design nor even seen the movies.
The worlds of good and evil collide as their representative dragons do battle in a mirror-image composition. Are they really good and evil, though, or do they just have different agendas?
A pair of white dragons make a peaceful glide above the castle on a moonlit night. It seems that the princess wishes she could be as free as they. I recall this phase when my dragons were a little overweight. I wonder what was up with that.
Pretty much your typical, red-hot fire-breathing dragon barbecuing some hapless humans. He's so ominous and mighty, the background couldn't accommodate his wings!
